My husband’s birthday and Valentine’s day is the same week. This year my best gift to him could not be bought. My gift to him was a sincere “I miss you.” It felt funny telling him “I miss you” when he was sitting right beside me. But it’s the truth. I miss my husband.
We wanted to have a baby. We planned for it. We tried for several months and were overjoyed when we were finally pregnant. We knew life would be different. We knew it would be an adjustment. Everyone warned us that finances, sleep, sex and our social life would change forever. We were ready- or at least as ready as we would ever be! I can’t believe J is 5 months today. Time flies! He’s getting so big already- sitting up on his own, inch-worming backwards, and already in 9 month clothes. He seems to discover new tricks over night! We know it won’t be long until one of his “new tricks” is solid foods. As he gets bigger and more curious about food, we have started thinking about solids. We have started researching options, discussing our game plan, and deciding what makes sense for us.
Some well meaning friends, family and strangers alike have begun asking what J has started eating. When they discover he hasn’t had anything yet they ask when he will start. They are curious about our choice to forego cereals and skip the purees all together. We know it won’t be long before J is enjoying family meals with us, but we’re not in a rush to start. Here’s why.

I searched high and low for a delicious, clean-eating oatmeal cookie. I read recipe after recipe but each one seemed to be missing a little something or contained ingredients I wanted to avoid. After looking at several recipes, I gave up. I pulled several ideas together and went with it. The results were delicious!
